چکیده

Hydrogen may become a replacement for liquid fossil fuels, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions reductions by improving the thermal efficiency of boosted lean burn spark ignition engines. Single-zone engine combustion models are simple, but can yield useful results as step in design process developing alternative fuel systems. The single-zone thermodynamic model is advanced implementing laminar flame speed sub-model investigate combustion, an extended Zeldovich mechanism nitric oxide emissions, and incorporating Livengood-Wu integral knock characteristics. were validated using published experiments giving satisfactory predictions between simulation experiment timing variation, manifold air pressure, equivalence ratios. A detailed analysis strategies showed that increased with hence be controlled through optimizing excess ratio start combustion. Further techniques achieve high prevent hydrogen SI discussed.

Controlling Cyclic Combustion Variations in Lean-Fueled Spark-Ignition Engines

Under conditions of lean fueling or high exhaust gas recirculation, interactions between residual cylinder gas and freshly injected fuel and air produce undesirable combustion instabilities in spark-ignition engines. The resulting dynamics can be described as noisy bifurcations of a nonlinear map and are complicated by cylinder-to-cylinder coupling. We discuss the key dynamic features relevant ...

Modeling NO and CO Emissions in Lean Natural Gas Spark Ignition Engines

Legislation limiting NO x and CO emissions from production natural gas engines dictate a need for greater understanding of the mechanisms governing these pollutants' formation. This work concerns the formulation of a one dimensional, multizoned, thermochemical model incorporating detailed kinetics for calculating NO and CO emissions from small, lean burning natural gas engines. The model calcul...

Experimental investigations on a pre-chamber spark plug with variable heat range by integrating a controlled hot surface

In gasoline engines, pre-chamber spark ignition systems are used to achieve high efficiency and low NOx emissions when operating under lean conditions. While a cold pre-chamber spark plug can lead to misfiring and flame quenching under cold start or part load operation, a hot pre-chamber can result in uncontrolled pre-ignition phenomena under full load operation. This paper presents an approach...

Numerical Simulation of Combustion with Porous Medium in I.C. Engine

Porous media has interesting features in compared with free flame combustion due to the extended of the lean flammability limits and lower emissions. Advanced new generation of internal combustion (IC) engines are expected to have far better emissions levels both gaseous and particulate matter, at the same time having far lower fuel consumption on a wide range of operating condition. These c...

Chaotic combustion in spark ignition engines

We analyse the combustion process in a spark ignition engine using the experimental data of an internal pressure during the combustion process and show that the system can be driven to chaotic behaviour. Our conclusion is based on the observation of unperiodicity in the time series, suitable stroboscopic maps and a complex structure of a reconstructed strange attractor. This analysis can explai...
